Feeling Tired? That's the Class you Need!

It’s Sunday after Halloween, and after a busy weekend of costumes, candy, a time change and probably some later nights than usual, a couple of our Little Dragons come into class looking a little more tired than normal;  But they showed up!

As class gets started, Sensei Marisa can see that a few of them aren’t quite their usual energetic selves, so instead of making a big deal about it, she gives them a smile, a couple of high fives and gets them moving.

And within a few minutes, everything starts to change.

The smiles come out, their energy picks up, and suddenly the same kids who looked tired walking through the door are kicking, punching and having a great class. There’s a great saying that “Emotion is created by motion,” and I think we see examples of this at the dojo all the time.

As adults, we’re no different. Think about how many times you haven’t felt like going to the gym, taking the dog for a walk, or doing that workout, but once you actually get started, you almost always feel better. Kids are the same way.

Sometimes when your child says they’re tired or they don’t feel like going to karate, it doesn’t necessarily mean they need to stay home; sometimes they just need to get through the door, see their instructors and friends, and start moving.

We’ve seen it hundreds of times over the years, as a child walks into the dojo tired, grumpy or just not feeling it, and a few minutes later they’re walking back out smiling and full of energy. This is the number one reason we always encourage parents to get them here and let us take it from there. Sometimes the class you don’t feel like doing is the class you need the most, and after a busy Halloween weekend, I think these Little Dragons proved just that!

So next time you or your child is feeling a little sluggish, remember the only bad class, bad workout, or bad walk is the one you didn’t do!
